TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (CBS) – Authorities in Indiana have busted a prison inmate for a second time for allegedly running a drug ring from his cell.
WBBM Newsradio’s Mike Krauser reports 42-year-old Wesley “FeFe” Hammond was sentenced to life in prison two years ago, for operating a Terre Haute drug ring using contraband cell phones inside New Castle state prison, about 45 miles east of Indianapolis.
He was moved to the maximum security Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, and federal prosecutors said the more things changed, the more they stayed the same.
U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett, of the Southern District of Indiana, said Hammond has been indicted for running another methamphetamine and cocaine ring in Terre Haute from his prison cell in Michigan City.
While Hammond is already serving a life sentence, the new charges carry the same penalty.
Fourteen others from the outside have been indicted in the scheme.
Hammond has been moved to another location, where he can’t obtain a cell phone.
